What does it mean to you to be a first-generation student/graduate?

It means a lot because I know my parents would have loved to attend the university when they were younger – but they were not able to attend. Being a first generation student is a blessing, and I’m honored to have the opportunity and support from my family and friends. I wouldn’t be able to do this without my family.

Why is being a first-generation student/graduate important to you?

My parents came to this country for a better life. I do this for them. Being first generation is a big deal for me because I’m living a dream not just for myself but my family.

What piece of advice would you give to first-generation students?

Work hard, be patient and everything will work out. It may be daunting at times, but you’re stronger thank what you think. And if you need a break – that’s okay. Make sure to always listen to your body and what it needs.
